Title Description
It is 1199 and young Arthur de Caldicot is waiting impatiently to grow up and become a knight. One day his father's friend Merlin gives him a shining piece of obsidian and his life becomes entwined with that of his namesake, the Arthur whose story he sees unfold in the stone.
In this many-layered novel, King Arthur is seen as a mysterious presence influencing not just one time and place but many. The 100 short chapters are like snapshots, not only of the mythic tales of King Arthur, but of the earthy, uncomfortable reality of the Middle Ages.

The whole family enjoyed this clear view into the times and lives of pre-Saxon Brittain, and into the mystic soul of the Celt --our own hearts.
The book is simply written, as a child's book, but in its simplicity, as with good poetry, it vividly captures and quickly, beautifully, brings into the mind and heart of the reader-listener, the ancient Brittains --their hearts and cosmos and life situations. So many pieces of the historic and humanity puzzle of these ancient times fall together along with human nature and our mystic souls, to manifest into our minds and living rooms of surely a true picture of 1000 AD Wales and Brittain.
Author Kevin Crossley-Holland should be commended for this masterful work, and narrator Michael Maloney is the perfect narrator.
