Title Description
Miss Julia Springer, a proper Southern woman, is the principal figure of this Southern comic novel. Recently widowed by the death of her husband, the late Wesley Springer, she is busy with the distribution of his estate when she is visited by Wesley's hitherto unknown mistress and a young boy, Wesley's hitherto unknown bastard. Disappointed in the results of the will, the mistress leaves the boy with Julia, forcing Julia to exercise "good Christian charity." Julia is incensed at these events and at the scandal that follows, and she rips into everyone and everything in her way with true "Steel Magnolias" poise. She speaks her mind about all the unsavory activities her husband left behind, and about much more.
"I absolutely loved this book!" (Fannie Flagg)

The plot was a little thin and predictable. A little silly.

I never laughed out loud on so many occasions. I played the tape when friends were riding in the car with me also, so they could hear the great reading of a very funny book.

I liked this book. Yes, the characters are stereotypes and the plot is very light, but it's still fun. There were a few cute surprises, and the sentimentality was kept to a minimum. I'll order the sequel when I feel like another light comedy. The reader was excellent!

I listen while I sit in traffic, commuting to and from work. This book, although slow to progress, captured my attention in a way that I was anxious to get into my car and was not disappointed when the traffic slowed. I found it to be sensitive, unpredictable, and magnetic. I can't wait to read #2, which I have just ordered.

This book is a lively glimpse at southern life. I was afraid it would be corny, but before I knew it I was sucked right in to Miss Julia's world. I couldn't wait to get the 2nd book and now I'm waiting on shipment of the 3rd. Try Miss Julia for a refreshing escape!

I accidentally read the second book in this series FIRST. Although I thought it was good and inspired me to order the FIRST book of the series, I didn't think it was as good as the first book. I laughed "right out loud" so many times listening to the first book that I would recommend it to all of my friends who enjoy a terrific chuckle!

Though I wondered at times where the story was leading, I throughly enjoyed listening to it. It is a great escape book - light-hearted and funny. I looked forward to hopping in the car and finding out what Miss Julia was up to next. Karen White, the reader, really brings Miss Julia to life.

| I found this book a bit boring. Not bad if you
like no nonsense books, but I didn't finish it!
Give me more action! |

Loved the book. The story was predictable in parts, but overall I couldn't wait to get back in the car & hear what happens next. Light, witty, funny tale.
