Title Description
A Fremont Jones Mystery

Fremont Jones and her "partner in love and work," Michael Archer, have been hired to look into a series of petty vandalisms plaguing the Southern Pacific Railroad. They are riding a train incognito when it is blown to smithereens just east of Salt Lake City. Michael suffers only a broken collarbone, but Fremont disappears. Believing that Fremont is still alive, Michael sets out to find her. Meanwhile, Fremont, with a serious head injury and two broken legs, has been spirited away from the site of the explosion by Melancthon Pratt, a devout and dictatorial Mormon who already claims five wives and is bent on making Fremont his sixth. Awakening in Pratt's remote cabin, Fremont can only concentrate on devising a mode of escape.

"One of the most refreshing heroines to appear in years..." (Booklist)

I felt this book was up to my usual high standards for Ms. Day's works.

As a huge fan of Dianne Day's, I was disappointed with this book. Plots seem to go fizzle suddenly and characters suddenly how they react to Fremont. Out of the blue, things seem to fall into place for Fremont. Anna Fields, once again, is a terrific reader.
