| An excellent book but a very poor reading of it. Mr. Case does not capture the feeling that the other audio books in this series have. Mr. Lee's reading of Noble House and Tai Pan are superb. One would think that Shogun deserves a quality reading to bolster sales of this audiobook. |

| Please get Jon Lee to read this book.
This man does not do it justice. |

Shogun, the story, what can you say? Timeless, intelligent, fascinating.
The reader, talented, intense, period appropriate. |

This is a classic novel for all time, but the experience is marred by the reader (David Case). Just as in King Rat, his terrible replication of a Japanese accent is only surpassed by his appalling pronunciation of Japanese. His graveled voice continuously mangles even the most common Japanese expressions.
To someone like myself, who knows from actual experience the proper pronunciation of the language, this is most unsettling. I find myself wincing repeatedly throughout the novel whenever Japanese text is read by Mr. Case. I often must stop the tape to "decipher" what was actually said. If you know Japanese, you might want to consider this in making your choice. And if you are relying on this book to learn a smattering of Japanese as a bonus, think again.
I am sure Mr Case is a wonderful man and is otherwise an excellent reader, but he needs to learn the proper pronunciation of the language before reading books with foreign text. |

| I have listened to this book 4 times and read the book 5 times. This novel is the GREATEST I have ever read. David Case does a magnificent job reading this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone, whether a long time audiobook person or someone listening to a book for the first time. Be advised, if this is your first audiobook everything else pales in comparison. |

| Great story, but the reader constantly talked as if he was out of breath. Accents not so great. |

| This is the most amazing book I have ever read. None can match up to it. |

| There should be a superstar category for a storyteller like Clavell and a reader like Case. If you saw the TV movie mini-series do not hesitate to listen to this book. You will return to this book again and again. It will absorb your imagination and make most other books seem shallow and trivial. This is another case when the book outshines the film. |

| This is the best book I have ever encountered. It has great vision and span, crisis and resolution, love and battles. Clever, intricate, yet easy to follow and the ultimate in enjoyment. |

This was one of the most enjoyable books I have "read." The author's descriptions of the culture and lives was well done. There is much to be learned from this book that might be valuable to everyday life.
I did have some problems with the reader's attempts to create different accents for the different characters. However, I do understand how difficult this might be in the case of the many nationalities required. |

| Some difficulty with the admittedly mind-blowing details of all the voices and accents, but the reader seems to warm to the task and the greatness of the story covers any lapses. |
