The Durant's shine with their usual brilliance, and this is only helped by the wonderful reading of Mr. Adams. I do implore all those interested in any history to listen to these masterful collections of books.

The Durants are disciplined, organized, thorough, and adept at putting things in a nutshell. The histories are long, but ultimately the reader saves time, because he can quickly learn the essence of thinkers he's not interested in but needs to know about and spend his time on the ones he likes. The histories always center where the world is being shaped, and this one is centered in France. Read them in order, preferably, but it's always worth the effort no matter where one starts.
