Editorial Review
A hard-boiled futuristic novel, NEUROMANCER uses as its stage the boundless range of modern cyberspace. The author's hero, Case, is a cyberspy, the best in the business. But he plays his games close to the edge and double-crosses the wrong people.

Banished from cyberspace and restricted to life in the physical world, Case hits the skids. But his luck turns when he gets another chance. To take it may cost him his life.

William Gibson is a guru of science fiction in the computer age, and NEUROMANCER is his "cyberpunk" masterpiece.

"Freshly imagined, compellingly detailed and chilling." (The New York Times)

One of the most amazing works of science fiction there ever was, Neuromancer started the whole "cyberpunk" genre. The writing is extraordinary (the most stylistically brilliant writing you'll find in science fiction) and the plot is so tightly woven that it occasionally evades the less attentive. There is action, violence, and some fairly interesting artificial intelligences running around. There are plans within plans, and plots within plots. Gibson's stories are interesting in that the main characts are often quite peripheral to the main action.. at first.

The reader here does sometimes miss the attitude of Neuromancer's characters. It would have been nice if they'd made him watch Blade Runner a couple of times. Lines that should have been delivered bluntly come off too simpering sometimes. But the tale itself is quite extraordinary.

I think you need to be a real geek and appreciate how far ahead of his time the author was in crafting this futuristic tale. It meanders and wanders all over the place, and I found it hard to keep up with all of the cyberbabble. On the other hand, this book is the inspiration for so many movies that you'll be amazed that more people weren't sued for stealing materials from William Gibson. I'd recommend these tapes only for hardcore scifi fans.
