Title Description
(Not in Dormunder Series )

Donald Westlake is known and loved for his hilarious Dortmunder novels. But in THE AX, he has taken a different tack. It is a tale of dark, mesmerizing power about an ordinary victim of corporate downsizing -- and his extraordinary response to it. Burke Devore is a paper company manager, a man who knows all there is to know about his business. But after twenty-five years of earning a good living, his job is suddenly gone. And he'll do anything to get it back. Burke Devore is gunning for his competition, and his blood-soaked footsteps are leading to an inexpressibly violent end. A quietly disturbing novel, THE AX questions the values of a society driven by the promise of "the good life." How far are we willing to go to maintain our creature comforts?

"Donald Westlake is a virtuoso plotter." (The New York Times Book Review)

I have been listening to BOT for many years, and this is one of the worst books I suffered through-I couldn't wait for it to end.

Everyone who has worked for "the corporation" will find some part of this book hitting close to home. The downsizing concept can make for a disturbing novel. The reader does an excellent job with the characters. Remember it's only a story, right?
