Title Description
December, 1943 -- the last war-time winter. In a small village, a young Belgian woman and an American lieutenant meet by chance. She's locked into a joyless marriage, works for the resistance, waits for the war to end.

He's a downed pilot, badly injured, hoping to hide in her farmhouse until he can run for it. She nurses his wounds; he stirs her soul. Over a mere 20 days, they find a grand love made grander...because it must end.

Moving and historically accurate, I have listened to it several times. It is everything: a soap opera, a romance, a love story, a history lesson, and a parable for life. I almost never give a 7 to both the book and the reader, but I did so here. I can not say enough about this audiobook, it is one of the best I have ever listened to.
