Title Description
Here are two classic Michener novels, each, in its own way a reflection of love and war. In Sayonara, Lloyd Gruver, a major of the U.S. army's occupation team in post-war Japan, finds himself gradually seduced by the country he's been sent to govern. Hana-ogi, a beautiful Japanese entertainer, cracks his last reserves.

In The Bridges at Toko-Ri, an American pilot -- a WWII veteran -- gets recalled to Korea, leaving his family and career for a war he hates. He nevertheless presses home on each assigned mission until his luck runs out at Toko-Ri.
