Title Description
When a neuroscientist -- noted for his work with experimental drugs -- gets crazy and hostile, his sweetheart, Kimberly Stewart, suspects contamination from a drug. When she learns he's testing one himself, she's certain.

Her concern drives her to scrutinize the anti-depressant, called "Ultra," which boasts therapeutic benefits too good to be true. But big bucks are behind the research with major marketing plans already in the works. Kimberly's meddling could kill her.

I found the premise of this story fascinating and more believable than many of Dr. Cook's other books. His explanation of what may have caused the Salem Witch Trials was interesting and I enjoyed the way he meshed past with present. Unfortunately, character development and realistic dialogue continue to be areas of weakness for this writer.

This book had a unique and interesting story, but otherwise, fell short. The characters were shallow and weak. Maybe listening on audio exaggerated this, but the author practically insults your intelligence with the numerous dialogue indicators. Honestly – most readers can figure out who’s speaking without a constant “He said,” or “She said.” In the end, the book managed to keep my interest, and I guess I was entertained, but the writing is immature and unimaginative. This was my first Robin Cook novel and I expected more from an author that has such acclaim.
