Dance Hall of the Dead is the second of Hillerman's great Navajo mysteries and the first to really develop Joe Leaphorn as a character. The details about the Navajo and Zuni cultures are what makes this story work. The reading by Jonathan Marosz is somewhat stilted, especially on the female characters, and gets a bit tedious to listen to.
