FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:     Why can't I rent?

Title Description
Captain Jack Aubrey, R.N., ashore after a successful cruise, takes a friend's advice and makes "certain investments" in the City. But the investments are a sham. Worse, they mire him in London's criminal underground, even espionage -- the province of his friend Stephen Maturin.

The question is, is Aubrey's ruin the result of a deliberate plot? It takes Maturin to sort things out in one sphere, Aubrey in another.

"A great novel. You will meet nothing like O'Brian in all literature." (Chicago Sun-Times)

THE REVERSE OF THE MEDAL is the eleventh in the series, preceded by THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD and followed by THE LETTER OF MARQUE.

The best Aubrey/Maturin to date: well plotted, good characterization and wonderfully full of the customs and practices of the Navy, Court and Financial Markets of the times. Maturin's financial windfall might seem a trifle too convenient to move the plot, but a minor quibble in an engrossing story.
