Rob Finn was a bit of a misfit: a struggling young jockey in a family of accomplished musicians, a man in love with a beautiful young woman who wouldn't have him because they were first cousins, a rider who -- just as it looked like he'd break into racing's big time -- lost his nerve.

Or did he? The horses felt slow and sluggish beneath him. He knew there was a reason. When he found it he also recognized he knew too much, that the cost of that knowledge might be his final defeat.

Excellent and involving--typical of Dick Francis. The narrator was a bit "too" upper class Brit, which made other characterizations, particularly women, a problem. In spite of that, worth a listen.
