On July 12, in his blog “GatesNotes,” Bill Gates shared his enthusiasm for BUSINESS ADVENTURES, an out-of-print collection of New Yorker articles from the 1960s, calling it his favorite business book. Immediately, and unsurprisingly, interest in this title has spiked (to say the least); the newly available ebook zoomed to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list and the LA Times reported on July 15 that Gates had singlehandedly “performed a literary resurrection.” You can read Gates’s original post here.
So now for some BIG audio news: BOT is excited to announce that we are bringing BUSINESS ADVENTURES to audiobook for the very first time! This in-demand, insightful, and often even humorous, business book will be the perfect listen to offer to intrigued patrons commuting to work, busy students on the go, or really to anyone who wants to hear Gates’s favorite for themselves. We look forward to sharing narrator news and a first clip soon, but until then, check your holds list, and enjoy this backstory from Gates’s blog as he explains how he was first introduced to this title:
Not long after I first met Warren Buffett back in 1991, I asked him to recommend his favorite book about business. He didn’t miss a beat: “It’s Business Adventures, by John Brooks,” he said…Today, more than two decades after Warren lent it to me—and more than four decades after it was first published—Business Adventures remains the best business book I’ve ever read. John Brooks is still my favorite business writer.
Watch as Bill Gates and others share their thoughts on this “masterful storyteller,” author John Brooks, “the Michael Lewis of his day.”
